the in the box e.p. is a fine example of niedermeier & whiteheads no-nonsense style, combining melodic, muscular grooves with deep basses and balearic percussion, the e.p. is a slice of raw tech and deep house class. with a relentless funky beat, in the box pays homage to classic tech-house form whilst maintaining a tracky musical edge that highlights the pairs dj background. with their penchant for diversity, short fuse is something truly unique, quirky pads and filtered fx gives this track a deep house vibe whilst a smoky lead ensures the techy theme is maintained. tales of old has all the essences of modern deep techno, it rolls along with a straightforward beat and a clean unpretentious production flavour. the simple vocal stabs and smooth fx hits are driven along by a wonderfully deep timpani that shakes some air but never interferes with the warm, round sub bass pining the groove together. lastly is out of place, a deep grooving track with an aggressive manner. through a series of dynamic peaks and troughs, technoid percussion and funky vocal hits, this track provides an appropriate addition to this perfect release

basti grub is a specialist for extraordinary and outstanding productions. loving music from his early childhood on. he seems to have a different approach to electronic dance music. these 3 tunes here are combining afro beats with wonderful rhythm driven latino tech house sounds, spanish guitars and smooth but subtle vocals and melodies. its also a bit different from his usual productions concentrating more on rhythm & drums than usually. he left certain elements and hooks out to let the groove develop and this is probably the best thing he could ever do.

second part of the much talked-about universal consciousness series. on one side, stephen brown, the artist responsible for some of the best releases on derrick mays transmat label, makes his 2010 comeback with an uncompromising and stunningly beautiful piece of detroit techno. on the flipside, club lonely, a these days in-house production moniker for jam sessions that happened in the labels studio between friends, presents a tribute to n.y club shelter. the track focuses on a bassline driven groove in timmy regisford fashion while on the b2 the vocals are muted for those who would like to use the track as a tool. space techno meets n.y dancers. universal consciousness

lil tony is hotter than hot. while starting to dj and produce years ago, tony has been a staple in the scandinavian club scene since the early 90s. an amazing dj (actually one of the favourites around the moodmusic hq) and a talented producer, tony started with the fbi project with roberto rodriguez and kimmo oksanen before dropping some serious damage on raw trax vol. 1 last year on moodmusic. caned by everyone from luciano (he edited his own version of semble) to dj hell, tonys raw grooves cut the crap and moved people when other producers had to take a leak. hardworking, never forgetting his gentleman manners, tony is here to stay and raw trax vol. 2 is a bold new statement, and his best work to date. solid state takes the classic detroit influenced drum machine vs piano theme a step forward, a impeccable jam of 15 minutes with the beat keeping the pace, this has been roadproofed the last 6 months to good effect. the b-side karamba is a dry, tight driven tech-workout, perfect mixtool for the deeper techno as well as housier sets. it just works well. the closing checkpoint charlie is a tale of >lost in helsinki< – dark mean bass wanders around and gives space for the chuggin main line, monotonic body music at its best.

after two highly acclaimed releases, enclave recordings return with an outstanding debut ep from irish dj/producer conor rogan. cogan delivers an impressive well rounded package which stands head and shoulders above most of the generic house music thats been flooding the scene these days. the title track >78<, is an infectious, hypnotic number with its roots firmly grounded in the golden era of funk and soul. expect mayhem at the disco when the groove kicks in towards the end where the slapped bass, chopped guitar, and flute take the track to another level.

its been a while since the last rsb release, but then tracks like this dont come along every day! for their first vinyl appearance on a label other than their own, enigmatic german duo ancient methods do the honourable thing and break out the whip, a track that comes across like a 2-step party in the foundry of thor himself. lets lazily label it anvil techno, because as far as we are aware no has yet invented a genre that adequately desribes music such as this. and as we have come to expect, much the same can be said of the evil sickness that is eat like hawks by bjorn svin (with a little help from karsten pflum, jona olesen & copyflex!). it starts like it means to go on, with a gnarled loop and indecipherable distorted vocals, and is gradually tweaked and augmented to the point of destruction. all manner of ill bass, overdriven filters, zaps, clanky drums & feedback join the party before the whole affair is brought to an abrupt end by the strange foreign lady that we have come to know and love over the course of the track. truly music for small, sweaty, strobe-driven cellars.

james braun is one of the new exciting producers out of denmark, with his strong productions he have earned great respect amongst djs like jesse rose and claude vonstroke. this is the second release from the danish producer on tartelet. the original is, like usually, a combination between solid house, great producing skills and james’ urge for experimenting with genre and sounds. with detroit-ish string theme and bass driven groove the original is fun, intriguing yet powerful. on the b-side tartelet are proud to present a remix by claude vonstroke, who wanted to do it after heavy support of brauns earlier material. the remix features many of the original elements but in updated and very danceable version. label-man tomas barfod shows us his darker sides on his remix. barfod takes symphonia late-night with string pad, dirty drums, spacy synths and deep-bass.

great road songs are driven by a yearning for the distant city that can only come from those that dont live there and like all the best ones, way to la feels dreamlike and timeless. claremont 56 start 2010 with a single from their latest signing, bison, made up of holger czukay, ursa major, paul mudd murphy and benjamin smith. the first release takes you on a trippy rock fuelled journey to the west coast of america, via stuttgart and holloway. on the a side, way to las bass throbs insistently, engines growl and bubble and tom petty power chords flash by in a swirl of czukay reverb, fading like treacle. ursa major is at the wheel, her voice soothing. she knows where shes going. cocooned in the cracked leather of the passenger seat beside her, nobody can stop you. you re on your way. side b takes to the highway with a darker sound. holger czukay puts his foot to the floor, pushing his mix up a gear and rounding off an essential debut release. like the perfect road trip sunset, this release is epic and unforgettable. like all claremonts this will be fly of the shelf...again!

easy house grooves and deep, chord-driven techno – two versions of electronic music paulo olarte is particularly interested in as he has proven with his records on diynamic or his own imprint fresh fish. for his first 12 inch on frankfurts new entry, polytone, former hamburg-resident olarte gives full scope to his perferences. >vayas donde vayas< comes with a wonderfully housey feeling and a rich fund of harmonies, whereas >sweet sugar< plays the role of the techno bouncer for the tradition-conscious and discerning dancefloor with its deep detroit flavour. in his remix of >vayas donde vayas<, antonelli concentrates on the lightness of the or iginal and moves towards a maximum of funkyness with a mulitude of thrilling details. drei farben house rounds off the remix flip side with one of his long suspense arrangements he has come to be known for, which sends us to house heaven when the fine chords eventually fully unfold. polytone remains one of the most interesting, diverse newcomers of recent times.

the second half of the great lengths remixes package offers 3 more vividly contrasting interpretations of album tracks. almost a year on from the release of his debut album >one< and with >saviour of techno< plaudits still bouncing off concrete walls, berghain lynchpin ben klock turns in a remix of is this insanity that distills everything inspirational about both the club and city he calls home. spaceapes cracked vocal is welded to a sort of cavernous piston driven groove while traces of the originals melody fractured into the briefest of shards fight their way to the surface only to sink back into the percussive smog. located well outside of the heavily scrutinised uk hype centres, manchesters rising star illum sphere continues to hone his already distinct sound on the flipsides brilliant orange reworking. a clanking off kilter groove rubs up against an extended mutation of the original melody that pushes the track towards a poignant climax, evoking all the ache of reaching for the stars and landing squarely on ones face.

rob bellevilles 4 track ep for adepth audio is his first vinyl release, following previous releases on the schall netlabel and paul macs digital label sulamuse. the 3 original synth-driven tracks on this ep are a perfect example of robs capability to produce epic-sounding tracks which are deep, soulful, energetic, and dancefloor-friendly.
german techno producer arne weinberg chose to remix the title track sounds of introspection and has delivered a version with a perfect blend of the original tracks main elements and his own beloved signature sound.

sometimes a label like syndikaat gets many demos from upcoming artists and sometimes suddenly something stands out so much it just must be signed! barnum & bailey are the new guys and they send us a slammer. very cool uplifting minimal style that just works so easily always. synth driven beats with a pumping bassline. its just like that, listen and let the music take you away.

tonbaumeister’s love for electronic music roots deep in the late eighties when he got his first computer, a commodore c-64, and when he instantly fell for the distinctive sounds of its sid chip. always driven by this passion he since then devoted himself to producing electronic music on various computing platforms and with multiple different programs to discover and soon constantly reinvent his own style. growing up in hessen, in the very heart of germany, he was deeply influenced by the endlessly evolving styles of house music and techno, which shaped the face of the vibrant club culture in cities like frankfurt and kassel. although tonbaumeister’s style might prematurely be declared as house music, the diversity of his productions makes it almost impossible to put them in a box and label them. his energetic tracks range from straight house to tech house to almost dark technoid characteristics, but suddenly one finds oneself surpr ised by the aforementioned sounds of late eighties computer games embedded in a psychedelic landscape with rough sawtoothy baselines. as hard as it is to pin down his production style, it is even harder to label his dj sets, which, as well as his productions, constantly evolve and morph while mirroring all of tonbaumeister’s influences. since 1999 he developed a passion for djing and he has had the chance to transport his enthusiasm into a number of clubs, infecting many clubbers with his verve. at the moment he is about to launch his own label subclinical

clone classic cuts continues to dig in the crates to bring back forgotten or obscure records from the past! this is 3 tracks by da posse (produced by hula... one of the outthere brothers... and with maurice joshua, k fingers & martell). strings & its my life are chicagos take on detroit techno... a rare release that sounds like a early derrick may record (think the dance) but maybe slightly more straight forward (as one might expect from chicago). a rare piece in house and techno history since this is one of the rare examples of a record that doesnt show the clear difference between chicago and detroit in the late 80s. this record most likely got produced within 1 year after rhythm = rhythms legendary nude photo and strings of life releases (both 87 and this came out in 88). as extra bonus track we have the groove. a phat bass driven chicago acid track that still rocks it. another fine piece of powerful dance music history back in the spot light!

gem001 is egberts -dezelfde weg ep-. secret cinema has been dropping it regularly and the crowd response has been amazing! side a is a hypnotic melody driven techno slammer titled >dezelfde weg<. on the flipside is a deeper darker track called >vette sounds< with creepy yet commanding synths over a pounding bassline driven groove. this track has also received the secret cinema remix treatment to brilliant effect!

support from andre rozzo, alex jones, so inagawa, jamie jones, matthew styles-harris, laurent garnier, steve lawler, nic fanciulli. luna records is a new uk based label from respected club promoter/ dj/ producer paul bowen, the man behind middlesbroughs infamous >riff raff< events. the label is set to release music from some pretty well established artists with an emphasis on stripped back chunky house music and in that vein the debut single sees the much hailed german producer chris lattner step up get the imprint firing in the right direction. lattner has been djing for the best part of two decades, initially gracing the decks at hannover techno parties before word of his talent spread, seeing him strike out to play across germany. he has hosted a radioshow for australias pulse radio, worked as a booking agent for lessizmore and has had releases on labels such as einmaleins musik and wba. his passion for electronic music has shone through in everything he has done and led him to produce some great records, to which can now be added the luna debut >memory<. this single release kicks off with lattners original of >memory<, a solid tech driven slice of house with heavily effected vocal samples and a simple floor shaking groove. this is understated underground house music at its best, deep chunky and highly effective. first of the two remixes comes from ex-peace division man justin drake, who builds on the vibe of the original, thickening out the drums and layering some heavy filters over the sythn stabs to great effect. a straightforward and highly effective arrangement provides everything that is needed in this excellent reworking. finally we have a remix from bearweasel, who have been providing choice cuts in house music over the last year via labels such as tsuba, supernature, bloop and murmur. for their >lazy dub< they take things back to basics and turn in a slab of deep and dubby house with an emphasis on razor sharp percussion and earth moving bass. this is a superb debut from a label that is sure to become a major fixture in 2010.

there is a new name on cargo edition, but by no means an unknown one. as a dj markus schatz has been on the move for years now, all the while maintaining his roots in the berlin club scene. markus started producing in 2004 and both his solo eps and collaborations with tom clark on highgrade records and opossum recordings last year clearly demonstrate that his talents go far beyond the turntables. and now for his first ep on cargo edition, markus takes a step further into the musical spectrum. drippin is a nimble house track accented with a note of funk and the smooth vocals of sean andino, giving the track a slight pop-appeal. in contrast flippin gives us a beautifully reduced form of house all driven by a powerful rolling bass line, a textbook example of less is more. as a perfect ending restart surprises with its smooth house arrangements and sophisticated deepness. a truly versatile ep from a truly versatile producer.

2009 has seen a slew of new detroit producers in what is turning out to be a stunning year of activity for the citys dance music. as the area experiences another test of its collective mettle, these musicians have emerged with some fresh insights. its detroits new wave, and its happening at a time when everyone wants to know whats really going on in the 313. as always planet e is on this wave with monty luke. following up releases on claude von strokes mothership music label, luke transplanted from california to detroit, shunning grace for grit and delivers his first offering for planet e, >art, love & war.< the labels first release since the 69 box set, >art, love & war< matches deep, stark piano stabs with sharp expansive drum hits, its upfront, its beat-driven, its for the dancefloor. the fantastic carl craig remix on the flip throws jagged edges of the original around in unexpected ways, its the first c2 remix on planet e since his epic remake of martin buttrichs >stoned autopilot<

this is a long awaited release on theomatic from a russian-born (now czech-based) house-quartet d-pulse. this definitely should have happened before as all d-pulse members and theomatic’s commander andrei zakharov (an-2) are fellow-townsmen and have known each over many years. d-pulse are known for their expressive live performances (guitar, bass and keys), everything you hear they play live and their unique vibe can shake any audience, be it hip moscow cuties or shy hick-town chicks. the band’s hectic schedule has put this ep on hold for several months, but at last guys managed to organize themselves and lay final touches to the production. the a-side is a mellow, spaced-out disco jam called ‘prekrasna’ - the russian for ‘beautiful’, especially when referred to ladies. the dancefloor-aimed ‘moments’ on the flip side starts off with hypnotic, dubbed-out guitar and atmospheric synths laid over fat house beat. it gradually leads to the breakdown followed by guitar driven blast-off and takes you to the orbital heights from wherever you are.

all the way from new zealand to the urban landscapes of berlin, simon beeston is a man who likes diversity. this is not just evident in his choice of residence, but also in his musical output. following an ep on highgrade digital and a track on our various artists vol. vi record, simon now presents dusty back room, his first solo 12inch release on highgrade. the ep opens with the title track dusty back room, a track of strings and stabs, and a sound not exactly typical of previous highgrade releases. but when the music comes with such compelling energy and provocative atmosphere, were prepared to make an exception. new zealand meets berlin as we cast an eye over green landscapes and ocean swells, while the bumpy groove intoxicicates us with its magic spell. that simon beeston is a man of great contrast is clearly evident on the b-side with neon cringe and cymbolic. the percussive heat of the club brings us back from the organic landscape of his homeland and into the neon lights of the night. neon cringe resonates with a healthy dose of acid pump, while cymbolic provides a bass driven journey complete with cut up vocals and blistering cymbal rolls. this is a release that richly deserves its round number: highgrade number 70. especially with the addition of the bonus digital track tough luck, another highlight all of its own.

handsette recordings return with yet another essential release! having blown up in the clubs and been begged and begged to be released, we now feel its time to unleash the beast that is posthumans lander on the world. lander is a real monster of a track. stuttering rave stabs meet fresh, driving beats and a wall of bass. one of those tracks that make people go, wtf is this? in a club! currently being caned by major djs across the country and getting radio 1 and solid steel show play, this is a big, big track. on the flip, cursor miner takes the track and flips it left, right and upside down! dropping the tempo and changing the emphasis from a stabby rave monster to a bass driven crunky wobbler, it is a fresh take whilst losing none of the energy of the original.

peter kruder returns to the gigolo mega-church to present two new tracks from his recent arsenal of techno and house dance-floor bombs. needless to say 2009 has been a good year for gigolo and hell with the high times being shared by peter kruder. beginning back in march when we released peter kruders first 12 inch in 7 years as part of the cd eleven release. followed swiftly by the release of dj hells acclaimed >teufelswerk< album, recorded and produced largely in peter kruders vienna based studio. so as we approach the end of 2009 it gives us great pleasure to announce the latest ep >hard to find<.
on the a-side you find the title track, which takes in influences from detroit techno circa the age of ur to north african hooks. the filter sweep towards the end, which serves as the drop/break, is a master-class in restrained modulation that is bound to ignite any dance floor. on the b-side we find >25 west 38th st.< a slightly more reserved affair opening with the sound of the ocean air, then swiftly diving into a bass driven groove, which features lush strings and a piano-led top line creating a track that is as atmospheric as it is rhythmic. the ep itself takes influence from the b-side on two levels, the most immediate being the title of the track, which is the address of the old nu groove records offices. this is peter kruders homage to a time when dance music served as a momentary escape, an opportunity to make those around happy. it also brings peters relationship with gigolo records full circle, having begun in 2004 with his >nu groove< remix of hells >listen to the hiss<.

>charger< is a massive track! the track seems to suck up air to created a vacuum and also sounds a bit as if there was a problem with the ignition of the charger! once it gets going it is indeed a heavy rocking track!>firebird< is a fat sounding house track, which can be plaid by house djs as well as techno djs using a cool walking bassline and a super tight slapping snare and cool house vocals on top of it! starting housy the track develops into a hi energy, appegiator driven track showing alex unders talent for moving genres skilfully from one end to the other! this is a great track!

john tejada was marooned in los angeles in the summer of 82. a strange place to grow up coming from vienna austria. even stranger considering the lack of techno there in the 90s. in a land of glowsticks and desert parties, tejada stuck to his love and development of his own unique electronic sound. fast forward to 2007 when detroit area native josh humphrey was also marooned in los angeles. it didnt take long for the two to meet and connect the cables on their modulars into a system twice as big. the result is marooned, palettes newest collaboration between john tejada and josh humphrey. the trio of songs reveal three sides to the duos work. the title track, marooned, joins humphreys modular synth work with tejadas beats and soothing pads, the result being a slice of beat-driven melodic techno created in a city where such sounds are rarely heard. melodiac continues from there with a lighter mood, with humphreys modular melodies and tejadas signature stabs and rhythms. rounding out the three is concrete safari, which largely focuses on humphreys modular fm synth work that slowly evolves into a cluster of tribal sounds, modular birds and grainy goodness. humphreys knowledge of synths and programming is quite extensive. he currently works with la based big city music, a dealer of modular and boutique synthesizers. it is also a place tejada frequents to test most of his gear
